UPDATE: After approximately two hours of downtime, the issues affecting Yahoo Mail today appear to be resolved.
Reports of problems with Yahoo Mail recorded by the Down Detector crash monitor have plummeted, indicating that whatever was causing problems for users has now been resolved.
ORIGINAL: Reports of Yahoo Mail down are mounting today with users in the UK reporting widespread issues with the popular email client. Independent outage monitor Down Detector recorded a spike in outage reports from Yahoo Mail that began after 7pm UK time today. At the time of this writing, Down Detector UK has seen a spike of almost 10,000 reports from Yahoo Mail Down.
According to statistics from Down Detector, the vast majority of affected Yahoo Mail users are experiencing login issues as well as problems sending and receiving emails.
When reported issues with Yahoo Mail hit, users took to social networking site Twitter to talk about the issues they were facing.
One tweeted: “@yahoomail yahoo mail is down and I can’t log in or access my email! Please sort this out ASAP”.
While another posted: “Ugghh Yahoo mail is down. Maybe I should swallow my pride and switch to Gmail”.
One of them added: “Yahoo mail down”.
And another wrote, “Looks like yahoo mail is down.”
When reports of the outage first surfaced, the official Yahoo Care support Twitter account was busy fielding questions from users who were having issues tonight.
Twitter @YahooCare asked affected Yahoo Mail users to send them more information and screenshots of the errors they were receiving to help investigate the issue.
Responding to a concerned user, Yahoo’s Twitter Support posted, “I’m sorry to hear this. Can you please send me your Yahoo email address and a screenshot of the email message. error you receive?”
Yahoo Care Twitter has since posted a general comment confirming that the service experienced issues tonight for “some” users.
The @YahooCare account posted: “Some users are experiencing issues with Yahoo Mail. We are aware of this issue and are working to fix it as soon as possible.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
According to Down Detector UK, around two-thirds (64%) of affected Yahoo Mail users experience problems connecting to the service, while 22% have problems receiving emails and 14% have problems sending messages. .
