How to Change Google Chrome’s Default Search Engine – Phandroid

Since Google Chrome is pretty much the most widely used internet browser in the world, many web developers tend to build websites with Chrome (and Chromium) in mind. This means that websites tend to render better and more accurately on Chrome, as the developer intended, compared to other browsers where you might sometimes experience mixed results.

Although Chrome is popular, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best, but we understand that some of you like using Chrome but don’t really like using Google Search as your browser’s default search engine. Maybe you prefer a more privacy-focused search, but whatever your reason, did you know you can actually change Chrome’s default search engine? Here’s how.

Change default search in Chrome

  1. Launch Chrome on your desktop
  2. Click the three button icon on the right and click Settings
  3. Click Search Engine in the left navigation bar
  4. Click the drop-down menu next to “Search engine used in address bar” and select the search engine of your choice

Keep in mind that changing your default search engine means that Google will no longer remember your search history, so using it with other Google services may not sync as well as before. Also, depending on what you are looking for, the precision of the search may be different, so you will have to get used to it.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t change your default search, especially if you think Google is collecting a little more data about you than you’d like, but it’s still worth keeping in mind. .
